Tonga launches new military facility in Eua

A new military camp has been officially launched in Eua, Tonga.

King, Tupou VI commissioned the Fangatā Military Camp of His Majesty's Armed Forces.

King Tupou VI toured the new facility with Queen Nanasipau’u during the commissioning on Tuesday.

The facility was constructed under a Defence Cooperation Programme between the governments of Tonga and Australia.

Australia's High Commissioner, Adrian Morrison said this was another milestone in Australia and Tonga's relationship.

“This a partnership that sees us working together to deliver major infrastructure projects such as the Range Control facility, office building and accommodation here at Fangatā.”

Other projects included the refurbishment of the Masefield Navy Base and Taliai Military Camp as well as the construction of a Northern Command faculty in Vava’u - a facilty that will support more intensive patrolling by the navy.

"Our partnership is longstanding. Forged by our participation in the two world wars of the last century."

The design and construction was carried out by HMAF's 1st Construction Engineering Squadron.
