Tonga Skills for Inclusive Economic Growth program conducts training

The Tonga Skills for Inclusive Economic Growth program conducted its first series of information sessions on its Skills Development Fund (SDF) in Tongatapu and Vava’u.

Financed through the Australian Government, the SDF aims to support skills training delivery in priority industry sectors to maximise employment and productivity outcomes.

Representatives from target sectors such as manufacturing, construction, tourism (Arts, Entertainment and Recreation & Accommodation and Food Services), agriculture, food, forest and fisheries attended the training.

It was through previous consultation that these sectors were identified as priority areas for skills development, that will support economic growth.

Representatives from industry associations, the governor’s office, the non-government sector and relevant government ministries also attended the session.

It was emphasised that only training requests with a clear link to improved employment and or self-employment results would be financed.

Requests promoting the participation of disadvantaged groups will also be prioritized.

The information session enabled stakeholders to understand the objectives and processes of the SDF, including how to apply for skills training support.

Tonga Skills is an Australian Government investment, working in partnership with the Tonga Ministry of Education and Training, to support inclusive economic growth through skills development in Tonga.
