Vava’u Police District have arrested a 24 year old man in connection with a firearm incident at Neiafu in the early hours of last Saturday.
The suspect is currently in custody and will appear at the Vava’u Magistrates Court on February 2.
He is charged with possession of illegal firearms and grievous bodily harm.
A woman who was allegedly shot remains admitted at Ngu Hospital.
The doctor-in-charge at the hospital, Dr Sione Lee said the woman will require surgery at Vaiola Hospital in Nuku’alofa to remove a bullet in her body.
Dr Lee said they have prepared for the victim to be evacuated to Vaiola Hospital.
A second woman allegedly suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.
The shooting allegedly took place at Vaipua Bridge in Neiafu.
An investigation is continuing into the report.
