The Latest: Victim owned truck involved in trooper's death

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the man accused of killing a state trooper apparently had stayed with a man whose body was found Monday in a Moss Bluff home, but authorities still do not know their relationship.

He says the truck that 54-year-old Kevin Daigle ran into a ditch, triggering the confrontation with the trooper, belonged to the Moss Bluff victim.

He has identified Daigle as a suspect in the man's death in Moss Bluff. Mancuso said during a news conference that Daigle apparently had either lived in or stayed at the Moss Bluff victim's house.

He says that killing could clarify why an apparently distressed motorist would shoot and kill a trooper who was trying to help him. Daigle has been booked with first-degree murder in the shotgun death of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent.

Col. Mike Edmonson, head of state police, said later that Daigle also told investigators that he'd argued with the man.
