Lord Vaea explains factors backing the vote of no confidence

Lord Vaea, Number One Noble's representative of Tongatapu to Parliament says there are several factors backing the vote of "no confidence move".

This includes the Minister of Education's interference as a member of Tonga Education Authority. It’s a conflict of interest because the Authority's operation will no longer be independent as it should be.

Lord Vaea told Radio Tonga & TV News another clear example was the recent court ruling that  Government pay back Lord Sevele of Vailahi's salary dated to July 1st , a result of an illegal move made by the Prime Minister.

“How can such an illegal move be taken, after all there is a system of law that everyone should follow, and with their legal advisor's - how can they go wrong, said Lord Vaea.

Such moves however will cost the taxpayer's money.

He also spoke of two bills passed by Cabinet to be tabled in Parliament but before deliberations on the issues resume, the Ministers requested for their withdrawals. This, he said showed that government was not committed to its responsibilities.

“Such irresponsible operation has given rise to concerns and questions raised whether government is able to carry out its official responsibilities.

He said although the House is adjourned, once it resumes the vote of no confidence will be submitted.

He said other factors that should be considered, includes the quality of a good leader.

On responsibilities outside of official duties, leaders are expected to show high standards of behaviour, but a recent incident saw a Minister throwing an object (a glass of wine) at his CEO,   which is an unacceptable act by someone of that position, said Lord Vaea.
