Murray to be honoured at World Club Challenge

Former Cowboys and Leeds Rhinos coach Graham Murray will be honoured by both clubs when they face off in the World Club Challenge in 2016, with the Man of the Match to be awarded the Graham Murray Medal at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on February 21.

Murray, who passed away in 2013, enjoyed successful stints at both clubs, guiding Leeds to a Challenge Cup victory over the London Broncos in 1999 before leading North Queensland between 2002 and 2008 which included a grand final appearance in 2005.

In a statement released by the Rhinos, club chief executive Gary Hetherington spoke of how highly Murray was viewed by the Yorkshire club.

"This is a fitting tribute to Graham Murray who was such a popular coach at both clubs. His wife Amanda will be over from Brisbane for the game to present the medal to the Man of the Match which will be judged by the assembled press," Hetherington said.

Murray's widow Amanda said she is "delighted" to have been invited to attend the match along with their daughter Cara as these two sides play off for the right to be named the best club side in the world.

"It will be such a thrill for myself and my daughter Cara to be at the game and share this special occasion and we are thankful that Graham will be honoured and remembered in this way," she said.
