Tonga Police Development Programme receives assistance from Australian Government

Tonga’s Prime Minister the Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva signed a Subsidiary Arrangement for the Tonga Police Development Programme with Australia’s High Commissioner to Tonga, Brett Aldam in Nuku’alofa.

The Tongan Government will receive AUD $725,728.30 as the Australian Government’s contribution for the 2015- 16 financial year to the Tonga Police Development Programme.



The arrangement is made under a tripartite arrangement between the Governments of Tonga, Australia and New Zealand regarding the Tonga Police Development Programme.

The programme is aligned to the needs and priorities of the Government of Tonga, with a focus on leadership and building an efficient and effective Tonga Police Force.



Australia is one of Tonga’s key development partners and this programme provides for part of Australia’s significant bilateral assistance to Tonga.
