Neolani Day to swim solo in Apolima Strait Ocean Swim

Digicel Tonga is proud to support National Ocean Swimmer, Noelani Day who is the first Tongan national to swim solo in the Apolima Strait Ocean Swim Competition held in Samoa every year.

Fourteen year old, Noelani will be competing in the 22.3km Ocean Swim – the longest ocean swim in the Southern Hemisphere and is the youngest to have attempted to swim solo. 

Noelani started swimming with the Malolo Swim Club here in Tongatapu since she was eight years old and she instantly fell in love with swimming as a competitive sport. 

Noelani did her first ever Open Water swim when she was only eight years old and swam 1.8km. 

She has competed internationally in New Zealand on the Auckland Harbour Crossing (2.9km) in 2015, Samoa Swim Series (3km) in 2015, King of Bays (2.8km) in 2016, Fiji Oceania Championships (5 km) in 2016, FINA NZ Open Water Championships (5km) in 2017, and Apolima Strait Relay Team (22.3km) in 2017.

Other highlights of her achievements has been participating to represent Tonga at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Bahamas in 2017 and at the Asian Indoor Martial Arts and Games, Turkmenistan in 2017.  

Noelani has challenged herself to participate in the upcoming solo Ocean Swim in Samoa to promote young Tongan women and youth in Sports.
