Murder Charges

Murder charges laid in case of Tahiti journalist missing for 22 years

The accused are Mr Couraud's ex-partner Miri Tatarata and a friend, Francis Stein, who are said to have had an affair at the time.

The two, who are both top officials in the French Polynesian administration, were charged after being detained for two days of interrogations.

The pair have been released but are under judicial control pending further action.

Ms Tatarata's lawyer has described the murder charge as scandalous.

Reports say the two accused have given conflicting accounts of the day when the journalist, known locally as JPK, was last seen.

Patricia Dagorn, who faces a life sentence if found guilty, denies the charges.

Police believe Ms Dagorn met at least 20 men through a matchmaking agency between 2011 and 2012.

She allegedly asked most of them for money, or to name her in their wills.

Ms Dagorn, 57, is already serving a five-year prison term for fraud and theft.

After that trial, police re-opened an earlier investigation into the death of a man she had lived with, Michel Kneffel.

Not guilty pleas entered for mom accused of killing 3 sons

Authorities say Brittany Pilkington confessed to killing her 3-month-old son last week, a 4-year-old brother in April and a baby brother last July.

The Logan County Prosecutor says the 23-year-old Pilkington was jealous at the attention her husband paid the boys over her and their young daughter. Pilkington's attorney entered the not guilty pleas at a hearing Wednesday. If convicted, she could get the death penalty.
