Digicel today launched a Tonga tsunami donation platform for the diaspora community and the Digicel Pacific family to support the relief and rehabilitation work of the Red Cross and Mordi Trust to help families rebuild homes after last month’s devastation
Digicel Tonga CEO, Anthony Seuseu, said; “This donation platform will help our diaspora and Pacific family to make donations simply and make a difference with much required relief efforts in the island. We wanted our wider family to take part in this important campaign so we have launched a text donation platform and the MyCash app donation mainly for the diaspora community.”
Digicel will match a dollar for every dollar donated by our customers for up to TOP$250,000 with all donations going directly to the Red Cross Tonga and Mordi Trust, both are local NGOs.
Secretary-General of Red Cross Tonga, Sione Taumoefolau, said; “We look forward to working together with Digicel to rebuild homes that have been destroyed by the volcanic eruption and tsunami. The donations will help us and the Mordi Trust assist those who are in desperate need.”
Board member of the Mordi Trust, Jennifer Tupou, said; “The Trust welcomes the generous donation from Digicel towards its response and recovery plan which includes rebuilding homes of those affected by the tsunami. On behalf of the board and management of the Trust, we are sincerely grateful and we thank you for choosing to support and partner with us.”
Digicel Pacific customers can come together for Tonga to show their support with a heartfelt donation. They can instantly donate by texting into the shortcode 7788. In Samoa donations are $1 Tala, $1 in Fiji, 50 Vatu in Vanuatu and $1 AUD in Nauru.
The diaspora community can send their donations directly to Digicel Mobile Money or MyCash number: +6768888877.
Digicel also distributed food ration packs and masks last week, and continues its relief efforts this week, providing essential support to the Mango Tree Center, the children’s ward at Vaiola Hospital, the elderly citizen’s home, and the homeless.
Digicel also made a donation to the Sai Prema Foundation in Suva for supplies sent to Tonga this week. Digicel has also pledged TOP$50,000 towards community projects focused on regenerating the environment, water safety education and programmes to help stimulate the local economy.
