With recovery efforts still underway in Tonga, Digicel has been able to restore 98% of its network with most communication services back up and running helping emergency services, families and friends to connect freely again.
Digicel Tonga CEO, Ben Kealy said “We have total coverage back-on-air in the main Tongatapu and we are pleased to report that we have network coverage for 98% of the population. Our technical engineers are now working round the clock to restore the last site on Eua Island and also repair a few sites which currently only have 3G network available (4G being worked on). We should have total coverage by the end of this week.”
“Our thoughts are with the people of Tonga who are still trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild and we are deeply saddened by and concerned about the destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Gita that hit Tonga last week.
