More drug-related arrests in Tonga

Tonga Police have charged four people with drug-related offences following their arrest Friday.

The suspects were apprehended by the Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce at a house in Longolongo with illicit drugs packed ready for sale.

Police seized 55 packs of cannabis and 15 packs of methamphetamine  along with drug paraphernalia and cash.

The suspects are a 35-year-old man of Longolongo, a 29-year-old man of Hala’ovave, a 30-year-old man of Hoi and a 26-year-old man of Haveluloto.

They are currently in police custody and will appear in Court at a later date.

“These arrests should reassure the community that preventing illicit drugs supply is a high priority for Police. We will continue to target those who supply drugs within our community, and hold them to account for their crimes,” says DPC Pelenatita Vaisuai.

Last week, four people were apprehended and drugs, ammunition, a firearm and cash were confiscated during a police operation.

Late last month, a senior Customs officer was arrested in relation to a $6 million drug bust.

Anyone who may have information about drug-related offending is being urged to contact Police Emergency Number, 922.
