Police have arrested and charged a 51-year-old Police Officer with reckless driving causing the death of a man.
The accused, who was off duty at the time, was driving a UT Ford van heading North on Vaha’akolo Road when he allegedly failed to give way at the roundabout and crashed into the driver’s door of a car driven by the victim.
The 37-year-old victim of Fangaloto was rushed to Vaiola hospital where he died two hours later.
The accident occurred about 11.15pm last Friday night.
Police say the suspect was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
He has been charged with reckless driving causing death, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving a vehicle with no number plate.
The accussed is in custody while an investigation continues.
