Netball New Zealand supports Pacific Sporting Partnerships

Netball New Zealand (NNZ) welcomes the announcement by the New Zealand Government to invest in the Pacific Sporting Partnerships programme.

The programme, delivered over five years, is aimed at encouraging increased sports participation and improving health outcomes in young people throughout the region, specifically Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands.

NNZ CEO Jennie Wyllie says they are committed to supporting Netball in Oceania and this programme will enable NNZ to provide long-term and consistent support.

“For a number of years NNZ has been committed to supporting and providing development to Netball in Oceania,” Wyllie said.

“We see Netball has a vehicle for social change and as a way to make a real difference in the everyday lives of people, both on and off the court.

“This programme will give us the ability to implement long-term, consistent support programmes starting at the community level with ANZ futureFERNS, to developing capability in coaching, umpiring and administration, and strengthening infrastructure.

“We look forward to working with our Pacific colleagues and continuing to forge strong partnerships to increase the opportunities available for people to get involved and develop a lifelong love of sport.”

The New Zealand Government will confirm further details in due course.
