Digicel Tonga has donated $10,850 to help the Special Olympics team participate in the 50th Special Olympics Anniversary in Fiji at the end of the month.
Digicel Tonga CEO, Ben Kealy presented a cheque yesterday to the Chairman for the Special Olympic Tonga Association (SOTA), Sione Taumoefolau and eight athletes, who will be representing the country at the event.
Taumoefolau thanked Digicel for another year of humble sponsorship for the athletes and the opportunity to take Tonga to the world.
He said Digicel has been a loyal sponsor for Tonga Special Olympic since 2013.
Tonga will be represented by a 5-member football team, two athletes who will compete in the 100m race and one athlete in the shot put event.
The team will travel to Suva with 5 officials.
The Special Olympic anniversary will be held from 30 April 2018 to 3 May 2018.
