Chapecoense plane crash: Bolivia arrests LaMia airline boss

Gustavo Vargas, a retired air force general, has been detained as part of an investigation into the crash.

The plane, operated by the tiny LaMia airline, was taking the team to Colombia when it ran out of fuel.

A Bolivian official says she warned the pilot of the problem before departure.

The official, Celia Castedo, has now sought asylum in Brazil, saying she suffered threats and abuse.

Chapecoense were travelling to the city of Medellin to play the first leg of the Sudamericana Cup final against Atletico Nacional.

Helio Hermito Zampier Neto, a 31-year-old defender for Chapecoense, was in a stable condition, doctors said, after surgery on a lung, a knee, a wrist and his head.

Five other people survived the crash, which killed 71 people.

Colombian officials say evidence is growing that the plane ran out of fuel.

Miguel Quiroga, the pilot of the British-made Avro RJ85 aircraft, had been warned by an official at Santa Cruz airport, in Bolivia, where the plane took off, that he might not have enough fuel, Bolivian Deber newspaper said.

Only six of the 77 people on board the charter plane, carrying members of the Chapecoense team, survived the crash.

The team were flying to what was billed as the biggest match in their history - the final of the Copa Sudamericana.

Their opponents, Colombian team Atletico Nacional, have offered to concede the game to ensure Chapecoense are declared the champions.

In a tweet, the club also asked that fans to turn up to their stadium at the time which the game was scheduled, dressed in white.

Chapecoense player found out he was to be father a week before crash death

The clip captures several Chapecoense teammates delivering the news to the player, also known as "Tiaguinho", last Wednesday.

The video shows him embracing his fellow players and celebrating, later rocking his arms back and forth as if cradling a baby.

Tiaguinho was among 75 people killed when a charter plane carrying 81 passengers, including members of the Chapecoense team, crashed near Medellin. Six passengers survived.

Chapecoense was due to play the Colombian club team Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana finals on Wednesday.
