Germany, Korea DPR and France among top eight

Germany, Korea DPR and France finished in the top four at the last World Cup tournament hosted by Canada in 2014.

The top eight, out of 16 teams, was determined following the group round robin matches where the top two teams of each group advanced to the quarterfinals.

Reigning champions German topped Group D, Korea DPR topped Group A and France finished second in Group C.

Among the top eight are Brazil from Group A, Japan and Spain from Group B, United States from Group C and Mexico from Group D.

PM O'Neill officially welcomes FIFA World Cup teams

The tournament will take place over a period of three weeks at four venues in Moresby.

O'Neill joined NCD Governor Powes Parkop last night, during the host city's reception, in extending a very warm welcome to Oceania and PNG Football Association president David Chung and all the other FIFA officials who are in Moresby over the next few days.

"PNG is a very unique country and you will find that our people are very warm and they will continue to support each of the teams over the next few days."

Air Niugini supports FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

In a meeting with FIFA officials in Port Moresby last week, Air Niugini general manager, customers and markets, Dominic Kaumu, said the airline’s support is predominantly in kind assistance, comprising of air travel discounts and other promotional activities.

“Air Niugini is honoured to be associated with the renowned international football tournament. We thank FIFA for the opportunity to be a national supporter for the first ever FIFA event hosted in Papua New Guinea,” said Kaumu.
