Mr Wong was detained at Suvarnabhumi airport after landing there on a flight from Hong Kong, Demosisto said in a statement.
It cited Thai student activist Netiwit Chotipatpaisal, who had invited him to Bangkok and had been waiting for him.
Joshua Wong became the face of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests in 2014.
