On 25 August, 2016 at SPREP's Apia headquarters, representatives from both agencies formally signed the Meeting Minutes related to the formulation of the second phase of the Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Waste Management in Pacific Island Countries, known as J-PRISM II.

JICA announces Tonga’s participants to the 1st batch for Pacific-Leads programme

Radio Tonga reports this is part of Japan’s commitment from the 7th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 7) in May 2015.

During an official function for welcoming the Pacific LEADS Participants, Ambassador Yukio Numata briefly emphasized that the significant outcome of this educational program will benefit both countries as well as promoting closer friendship between people of Tonga and the people of Japan.

Japanese case out wind power scheme in Tonga

Matangi Tonga reports that the JICA survey during the past few weeks followed a request from the Tongan Government to Japan to help it with wind power generation systems.

The survey is expected to continue through to December with Japan's Cabinet expected to make for a final decision by May next year.
