Kidney transplant

Stevie Wonder tells fans he will have kidney transplant

The singer told the crowd about his medical condition as he finished his set at British Summer Time Hyde Park.

He said he had found a donor and would perform three more shows before the operation in September, saying: "I'm all good, I'm all good."

Fans greeted the news with a loud, supportive cheer, applauding the 69-year-old singer as he left the stage.

He had just finished playing the song Superstition when he told the crowd he wanted to prevent "rumours" spreading about his health.

Tonga sought support from Romanian government for sick rugby player

Pacific Rugby Players Welfare said the former Ikale Tahi player was recovering well from the transplant and thanked everyone who had supported him.

Vaiomo’unga had been on dialysis after being diagnosed three years ago.

The Ministry sought assurances from Romania’s Foreign Minister Teodor late last year, explaining that dialysis was not available in Tonga.

Tonga’s Minister for Health, Dr. Saia Piukala told the Romanian authorities that returning him to Tonga would be “a death sentence.”

Vaiomo'unga played for Tonga at the 2011 Rugby World Cup before securing a club contract to play in Romania in 2014.

It was there that he was diagnosed with kidney disease and remained in the country for dialysis treatment not available in Tonga.

The New Zealand Herald reported that his story went viral and led to more than $US 42,000 being raised by the organisation through crowd funding for the transplant procedure.
