David and Victoria Beckham's London mansion burgled

Their Kensington home was broken into between 20:30 and 23:30 GMT on 28 February.

The Met confirmed a burglary had been reported in the W11 area and said a number of items were reported stolen. No arrests have been made.

It said inquiries into the burglary, first reported by The Sun, continued.

David Beckham, who won 115 England caps, retired from football in 2013 but has since become an owner of Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF. He also works as a Unicef ambassador.

Flooded London hospitals ask patients to stay away

East London's Whipps Cross and Newham hospitals urged patients to use other A&Es for urgent care, and ambulances are being redirected.

Torrential rain has caused severe flooding in homes, roads and stations.

The London fire brigade said it had taken about 300 flooding-related calls in the space of a few hours.

An amber thunderstorm warning is in place for much of south-east England, with 75 to 100mm (3in to 4in) of rainfall forecast in some areas.

Vehicles became stranded, and officials warned people not to travel in the hazardous conditions.

George Michael: Nine-metre mural to be unveiled in London

British artist Dawn Mellor has been commissioned to create a permanent painting of the singer in Kingsbury.

It is part of Brent's celebration as London Borough of Culture 2020 and will recognise the singer's life and music career.

The artwork will be unveiled next month on 19 September on Kingsbury Road.

Michael made his name with pop group Wham! in the 1980s and went on to enjoy huge success as a solo performer.

He died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53, at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.

Coronavirus: British Airways suspends all Gatwick flights

It follows EasyJet's suspension of flights after the government advised against all but essential travel.

British Airways told staff it was facing a challenging market environment in "unprecedented circumstances", according to an email seen by the BBC.

The airline said it would contact customers to "discuss their options".

"Due to the considerable restrictions and challenging market environment, like many other airlines, we will temporarily suspend our flying schedule at Gatwick," the airline said in a statement.

Newly face-lifted Big Ben will ring in New Year in London

The work has seen the 96-metre-tall Elizabeth Tower, one of the most photographed buildings in Britain, enveloped in scaffolding for the last two years as the four clock dials are reglazed, ironwork repainted and intricately carved stonework cleaned and repaired.

In March, part of the scaffolding was removed, showing that the clock's once black numerals and hands have been repainted blue, in line with what scientists say was its original colour.

Two people dead in terrorist attack at London Bridge

Two people who were injured in the attack have died, according to London’s police commissioner. Three other people who were injured are being treated at hospital. 

Police had earlier said it was called to a stabbing at a “premises” near London Bridge at around 2 p.m. local time. It ended with passersby tackling the fleeing suspect before he was shot dead by officers.

More footage showed a different man walking away with a large knife he reportedly wrestled from the attacker.

Man killed in north-west London

Police officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to Munster Square in Camden at about 23:10 BST on Monday.

The victim - whose age has not yet been released - was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation has been launched and a crime scene remains in place at Munster Square, Scotland Yard said.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information that could assist the investigation has been asked to contact the force.

     

Heathrow reveals expansion 'masterplan'

The plan includes diverting rivers, moving roads and rerouting the M25 through a tunnel under the new runway.

Heathrow's expansion has faced fierce opposition, but the airport says it has engaged with local communities and other stakeholders.

The proposals are now open to public consultation until 13 September.

The masterplan is illustrated in a visualisation from the architects, showing the M25 running in a tunnel underneath the new runway.

Joseph Parker's boss set to close Anthony Joshua fight deal

Joseph Parker's promoter David Higgins looks set to head to Britain for face-to-face talks to seal a world heavyweight boxing title unification fight with Anthony Joshua that now looks to be heading for a major stadium.

"We feel like there is a deal that can be in place with Parker and his team within the next week or so," Joshua's boss Eddie Hearn Hearn told Sky Sports on Thursday.

"There's a good chance [Parker's promoter] David Higgins will fly over in the next week to try and close the deal.

Usain Bolt ready to peak for London

Bolt laboured to a 10.06 seconds 100 metres victory in the Czech Republic last month and immediately travelled to see his doctor German Hans-Wilhelm Mueller- Wohlfahrt for some treatment on the back issues that have troubled him for years.

The Jamaican world record holder will test his treated back in Friday's Diamond League meeting in Monaco, which will be his last outing before he defends his 100m title and then goes in the 4x100m relay in the world championships.

"I'm feeling good," Bolt told a Monaco news conference.
