Kostjasyn forced to retire

Kostjasyn sustained a complex throat injury during a routine pre-season training session in January. He has undergone a number of surgeries to repair the injury, however his airways have been significantly narrowed.

The former Cowboys hooker joined the club for 2017 but injured his throat in an accident during training on Saturday.

"Kostjasyn was hospitalised however he has been discharged today (Monday)," the Knights wrote on their website.

"The 29-year-old will be reassessed in four to six weeks to determine a return date to training. At this stage, Kostjasyn is expected to be out for a minimum of six to eight weeks.

"The Club will continue to provide any further updates when appropriate."

Knights make another big signing

Kostjasyn, who grew up on the Central Coast before a stint in Melbourne, returns to the club he played 32-games for after his debut in 2010.

“I’m looking forward to getting to the club and seeing all of the young guys tear in and improve on what they’ve built this year,” Kostjasyn said in a statement released by the Knights.

“It’s an exciting time and there’s going to be some hard work.

“It’s been seven years since I’ve lived close to family and friends, so I’m looking forward to coming back.”
