The 31-year old joins the Westerners from French side Grenoble where he earned 65 appearances in four seasons with the club. The 6’5, 116kg lock previously represented New Zealand side Waikato in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Fifita started in all four games in the country’s 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign and has earned 19 caps to date.

Having struggled to match their opponents in the middle of the field since the season restarted from the COVID-19 shut down, the return of Pangai Jnr from suspension was expected to boost the Broncos' go-forward.

Hurrell was in the country for a day to meet with the Tonga Rugby Board about Kids Rugby development which is something he is passionate about.
