Mildura councillor Ali Cupper says the Tongan community should be allowed to present the case for a sister city relationship with Nuku’alofa.
Tongan community leaders, the Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council and former mayor Peter Byrne have reignited debate about a link with the Tongan capital.
A report prepared in 2013 found Mildura could offer support to Tonga in health, education and law enforcement through a sister city relationship according to a report in Sunraysia Daily.
Cr Cupper said the information should be presented to councillors at a forum.
Mildura is a city with a population of about 31,000 people and it is located in Victoria, Australia.
