Family of Tongan man killed in Melbourne appeal for suspects to come forward

Relatives of 33-year-old Ikenasio Tuivasa ‘Sio’, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Melbourne, Australia earlier this year, are appealing to those responsible to come forward.

Tuivasa’s father, who appeared on a live stream by Victoria Police earlier this month, said he has forgiven and forgotten and he is pleading for who anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

He said he wants to see who did this.

Tuivasa’s partner whom he have five children with said the family wants “closure and peace.”

‘Sio’ was with his brothers and cousins outside the All Star Lounge at Ravenhall when two men in a ute called out to them and one pulled out a firearm and opened fire at the group, according to Tim Day, Homicide Detective Inspector with Victoria Police.

The incident occurred just before midnight on 27 February.

Tuivasa who was the eldest of his siblings was described as loving and devoted.

His partner said Tuivasa was loyal to his family and loved by many.

According to Inspector Day, a 24-year old man sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.

He said on the night of 27 February, two men in a ute approached the area.

He said the men were Pacific Islander in appearance and of large build.

They called out to the group in what police understand was in Tongan.

Inspector Day said one man pulled out a firearm, fired several times and the vehicle pulled away.

Police are appealing for information that would help in their investigations.

Inspector Day said their investigations indicate ‘no discernable motive for the shooting.’
