Police investigate homicide at former home of X-Factor star, Ashley Tonga

Auckland police have launched an investigation into a murder at the former home of a Tongan woman with a prominent social media profile and X-Factor star, Ashley Tonga.

Police said they found the body of the teenager at a vacant property on Buckland Road, Mangere, last Sunday evening.

Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Vaaelua said the investigation was in its early phases, however police were speaking with several individuals.

Tonga posted her reaction to the report on her social media profile.

“I can’t believe I slept in a house for 10 years and not even one week of moving out a murder happens at the house. This is beyond sad. Love and light to the family of the young girl,” Tonga said.

She also informed the public to stop asking her about the murder and to contact the police.

A post-mortem examination has been completed and initial indications from enquiries are that the death occurred sometime during the day on Saturday.

A scene examination, including a forensic analysis of the scene, has been completed over the past two days at the property.

A Housing New Zealand spokesperson said the house where the teenager was found dead was one of its properties but said the long-term tenants moved out on 28 June.

According to RNZ, Tonga said she and her mother moved to a new house only last Tuesday.

Since they left, her neighbours had seen people going inside, she said.

Tonga said when she went back to pick up post from the house early Sunday evening, something did not
