Cyclone Fili upgraded to a category 2 tropical cyclone

Cyclone Fili is located 220km north-west of New Caledonia making its way south at six kilometres an hour.

New Caledonian authorities have placed one northern district on alert level two for cyclone preparedness, while five other northern districts are at alert level one.

In the next 24 hours forecasters expect Cyclone Fili to move south south-east, 180km from Belep.

     

TC Ana could impact Tonga by late today

According to the Fua’amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, Tropical  Cyclone Ana (Category 2) was located 565km West of Nuku’alofa at 7am today (local time).

TC Ana is moving South Southeast at about 10 knots (20km/hr).

The maximum winds near its centre is about 60 knots (120km/hr) with momentary gust of up to 80 knots (160km/hr).

The FTCWC said on its current track, the cyclone could bring destructive storm force winds to Tele-ki-Tonga and Tele-ki-Tokelau and damaging gale force winds to Haapai, Tongatapu and Eua groups by late today or early Tuesday.

Tonga Met monitors TC Ana

Tropical Cyclone Ana has slowed down and it is moving South Southeast at about 7 knots (14km/hr).

The maximum winds near its center are about 60 knots (120km/hr) with momentary gusts of up to 80 knots (160km/hr) at times.

On its current track, it could bring a storm force wind to Tele-ki-Tonga and Tele-ki-Tokelau and damaging gale force winds to Haapai, Tongatapu and Eua groups by late Monday or early Tuesday.

Associated strong winds, cloudy conditions with periods of heavy rain and thunderstorm continues to affect Tonga.

 

One drowning and five missing in Fiji as Cyclone Ana hits

In a statement this afternoon, the National Disaster Management Office said a 49 year old man had drowned.

The NDMO also said there were five people missing including a three year boy from Lautoka who hasn't been seen since yesterday.

The other four were fishermen who had gone out earlier in the week as the storm developed, two from Cikobia, Vanua Levu and the others from near Suva.

Cyclone Ana moves over Fiji capital

The category two storm, packing gusts up to 140 kilometres an hour, made landfall on the main island of Viti Levu this morning and had been moving south-southwest towards Suva since.

The Fiji Meteorological Service's, Sakeasi Waibuta, said many parts of the country had already suffered from severe flooding with over 100 millimetres of rain overnight and the downpours continuing today.

Cyclone Mona becomes a category two storm in Fiji

A few hours ago Mona was situated about 300 kilometres northwest of Labasa.

The storm is packing winds of up to 130 km/hr as it moves south-southwest.

However tonight Mona is expected to turn and move east-southeast towards the Fiji islands of Vanua Levu and Viti Levu.

A tropical cyclone alert remains in force for most of Fiji with the far north island of Rotuma already being given the all-clear and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups maintaining a gale warning.

Amos now a category two cyclone

According to RNZI, the cyclone is moving east-northeast at nine kilometres an hour and is intensifying.

On its current track, the cyclone is expected to pass just south of Samoa overnight Saturday.
