Funeral for Tongan father killed in south Auckland crash; wife in hospital

The coffin of Mōsese Pasikala was carried by his family Thursday in what had been described as his last visit to his home.

Kaniva News reports more than two dozen people gathered outside a residence to greet the delivery of the coffin.

A prayer service held in front of his coffin was also livestreamed.

Reports said the deceased’s wife was still in hospital.

Police said on Sunday a person has died and another was critically injured after a car crashed into a bus stop in South Auckland.

Tongan brothers killed in US car crash

Atonio Makalio Taliauli, 25, and Deonzeo Talia’uli, 26, were passengers in a moving vehicle involved in the accident.

Reports revealed that a vehicle lost control for still unknown reasons.

Then, it crashed in Sacramento’s Ben Ali neighbourhood.

Sacramento media have yet to update their initial reports which said one person died at the scene.

A relative of the deceased told Kaniva News one brother was pronounced dead at the scene and the other later died in hospital.

Tongan family mourns son’s death after a single-vehicle crash in New Zealand’s Northland

Police said Len Courtenay, 22 and a friend died at the scene at around 5.40pm on Wednesday.

Kaniva News reports Len’s mother Makalita Angianga is expected to arrive in Houhora, Pukenui near Cape Reigna at the northwestern-most tip of the North Island for his funeral.

She said Courtenay had just celebrated his 22th birthday on July 20.

A prayer service is expected to take place at a residence in Māngere, south Auckland to remember Courtenay.

Police previously said emergency services were notified of the crash.

PNG Deputy Prime Minister killed in road accident

Police Commissioner David Manning has confirmed Basil's death after a collision along the Bulolo-Lae Road on Wednesday night.

Police transported Basil to Bulolo Hospital but he was pronounced dead at 11.30pm local time.

Three other people were also injured in the crash and taken to hospital.

Police Commissioner Manning expressed his condolences to Sam Basil's family and the people of Bulolo electorate.

He appealed for calm to allow police investigations to be completed.

Manning said a second vehicle was involved, and the driver has been identified.

Tongan woman killed, child injured in car crash in Sacramento County

Around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said a woman was driving recklessly in the area in Jackson Road east of Murieta Parkway in a Nissan SUV. She then traveled off the roadway onto the shoulder and overturned her car, CHP said.

According to a report in the Sacramento Bee, the woman was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries, according to the CHP. A child was also thrown from the vehicle, officials said, but was expected to survive.

The driver was later identified as Atheana Fotu, 25, by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Funeral service held for US car crash victim Samuela Malu’amaka Tupola

Tupola, 23, was traveling with two of his cousins and two friends northbound on Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, on their way back to Utah, when a sedan traveling south in the northbound lanes hit their vehicle head-on, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Kaniva News reports Tupola’s family alleged the fatal incident involved a driver “driving the wrong way on the freeway, heading straight into their car” before  the vehicle in which the deceased was travelling in was “hit head on, and shortly after a semi behind them couldn’t stop and hit their car as well”.

Williams not at fault for crash

The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department reviewed video surveillance footage of the intersection where Williams' SUV was struck by another vehicle.

The driver, Linda Barson, was injured and her husband, Jerome, died two weeks later.

A police report initially alleged the seven-time grand slam champion was at fault for the incident, though she was not issued with any citations or traffic violations. There was also no evidence she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or distracted by an electronic device.

Germany canoe slalom coach dies after car crash

BBC reports that the 35-year-old 2004 Olympic silver medalist suffered head injuries when a taxi he was in with a team-mate crashed into a concrete barrier on Friday.

The German Olympic Committee (DOSB) said Henze had died of his injuries in the presence of his family.

"Words cannot describe what we feel in the team after this terrible loss," said DOSB president Alfons Hormann.

International Olympic Committee president and compatriot Thomas Bach added: "The IOC is mourning the loss of a true Olympian."

Early Morning Car Crash Claims 3 Lives in Tonga

A fourth occupant of the car, who is a 21 year old man also of Kolonga, is in a critical condition in hospital.

Tonga’s Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai says a rental car travelling north east along Talasiu Road swerved and hit a coconut tree on the right side of the road.

“The driver, front and right rear passengers died on impact with the fourth passenger who was seated at the left rear, survived but in critical condition in hospital.”

The accident occured a little after midnight.
