New UN High Representative for Least Developed Countries Sworn In

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres swore in Ms Utoikamanu as the Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.

The Tongan diplomat is one of three officials sworn in on June 7.

UN chief appoints Tonga’s ‘Utoikamanu to senior post

Ms ‘Utoikamanu’s appointment was announced by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres Thursday.

She will succeed Gyan Chandra Acharya of Nepal.

SG Guterres said he is grateful to Mr. Acharya for his dedication and commitment to the United Nations.
 
Ms. ‘Utoikamanu brings with her a wealth of national, regional and international experience at various senior leadership levels, with a strategic perspective for the mandate of the OHRLLS and on building consensus among key stakeholders.
