Heilala Tax System

Tonga's Ministry of Revenue wants to connect with taxpayers

Taxpayers who maintain a strong record of compliance with taxation and customs laws will be rewarded with benefits and dedicated services.

The ministry's Senior Deputy CEO, Taniela Sila, said the initiative was not a scheme to get people in Tonga paying their taxes and complying with the laws efficiently.

Mr Sila said it was created to build a relationship with taxpayers.

Tonga introduces a rewards system for taxpayers

The Heilala Tax System gives priority services and benefits to those who conform with tax and customs laws.

The ministry has selected their top 10 taxpayers, which include banks, a wholesaler and a church group, to be given access to additional services and benefits.

These include TV and internet access at both tax and customs offices, priority when processing tax and customs requests and VIP lounge access at the Fua'motu International Airport.
