All Blacks edge Springboks in Rugby Championship thriller

The 100th test between rugby's two most successful nations did not disappoint and it was not until fullback Jordie Barrett kicked his fourth penalty two minutes from time that the All Blacks took the lead for the final time.

All Blacks winger Will Jordan and his Springboks counterpart S'bu Nkosi scored early tries but from then on it was a kicking duel between South Africa first-five Handre Pollard and Barrett to decide the spoils.

All Blacks skipper ready for more big hits

World champions South Africa go into the Rugby Championship test at Townsville's North Queensland Stadium on the back of successive losses to Australia and having just lost the world number one ranking to New Zealand.

"Regardless of previous results, when the two nations collide, it's a big one," Savea said.

"They're under pressure with the previous results they've had, under pressure back home in their own country and when you say it like that, it's a scary thought.

Waka Nathan dies, aged 81

He played 23 times for the All Blacks including 14 Tests.

The loose forward featured in the 1966 series victory over the British and Irish Lions scoring two tries in the third Test.

Nathan made his debut for Auckland at 18 and played 88 games in the Blue and White Hoops, scoring 51 points.

He scored a last-minute try as Auckland successfully defended the Ranfurly Shield with a 19-18 victory over Canterbury in 1960.

Murrayfield sold out for arrival of Springboks

It will be the first time since March 2020 that Scotland will play in front of a full stadium, with Jacques Nienaber’s South Africa providing some stiff opposition in the third match of the 2021 Autumn Nations Series on Saturday 13 November.

Scotland have been victorious in five out of their 19 encounters with the Boks to date, but haven’t won against them since a 21 – 17 in the capital stadium in 2010.

All Blacks roll out big guns for 100th test against Springboks

There are several changes to the starting XV from last week's win over Argentina.

Joe Moody stays on one side of the scrum for Saturday night's match in Townsville, while Nepo Laulala is back in the number three jersey, replacing Tyrel Lomax who drops out of the matchday 23.

Codie Taylor returns at starting hooker, with Samisoni Taukei'aho on the bench alongside props Karl Tu'inukuafe and Ofa Tuungafasi.

Brodie Retallick returns at lock alongside Scott Barrett, with Patrick Tuipulotu moving to the reserves.

All Blacks beat Argentina to go top of world rankings

The bonus-point victory in front of 38,000 at Lang Park extended their lead to 10 points over second-placed South Africa in the Rugby Championship table while ending Argentina and Australia's title hopes.

South Africa, beaten 30-17 by Australia in the first match of Saturday's double-header, will need to defeat the All Blacks twice and pile on the tries in their last two matches to earn bonus points to have any hope of stealing the silverware.

All Blacks captain Savea confident new players will show patience

The All Blacks have swapped out more than two thirds of their starting XV from last week's win over Argentina, as they rest a string of first choice players ahead of two games against South Africa.

There are 11 changes to the run on side in total and a new look reserves bench.

Savea, who missed 39-nil trouncing of the Pumas on the Gold Coast after suffering a head knock in the final Bledisloe Cup win over the Wallabies, said his side can't afford to let Argentina outmuscle them in Brisbane.

"We need to match and be better than them in the physicality space.

All Blacks ring changes for Argentina with McKenzie at first five

McKenzie takes over from Beauden Barrett who drops to the bench for the Brisbane test, after playing a leading role in last weekend's 39-0 drubbing of the Pumas on the Gold Coast.

Joe Moody starts at prop after his return to the All Blacks off the bench last week, with hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho making his first Test start.

Tyrel Lomax will also start while fellow prop Ofa Tuungafasi is in the reserves for his first test following knee surgery.

All Blacks keep Argentina scoreless in Rugby Championship

The five-try victory could have been an even bigger winning margin.

All Blacks coach Ian Foster has credited his side's patience and decision making in the win.

"Pretty clinical and patient would be the words I'd use, not adjectives that would normally describe an All Black win I guess, but I'm actually delighted with it," Foster said.

All Blacks lock to stay at home

The All Blacks lock was supposed to fly to Brisbane on Friday to start two weeks in hard quarantine, after remaining behind in New Zealand for the birth of his third child.

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) was only granted an exemption for Whitelock to quarantine in Queensland late on Friday, with his flight delayed until Tuesday.

NZR believe the timing of Whitelock's arrival would not give him enough time after two week's hard quarantine to safely prepare to play against South Africa on October 2.
