Fiji seeks Google help in plot probe

Last month, police said they had contacted foreign police forces to help in the investigation, but gave no details.

The case stems from an incident in November when an internet cafe owner, Rajneel Singh, claimed to have been beaten by police after he told them about an email found in his cafe about an alleged plot to kill all government MPs.

Fiji Assistant Police Commissioner Brown resigns

FBC reports the acting commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho as saying he received an email from Mr Brown yesterday stating his decision to leave the force.

Brigadier General Qiliho says Mr Brown indicated he is tendering the resignation under duress because of allegations against him.

Fiji's NFP party considers withdrawing from parliament

Biman Prasad says the opposition is frustrated by the lack of momentum in the parliament, which was restarted after elections in 2014.

He says his party is constantly hamstrung in its ability to carry out its functions by restrictions and a lack of resources for the opposition, and what he considers a bias towards the governing Fiji First party.

Cyclone Ula causes minor damage in Fiji

The Disaster Management Office says reports from Ono-i-Lau and Kabara say there were no casualties and no significant structural damage, but some corrugated iron roofs were blown away.

The Office says root crops have been damaged by the strong winds.

Many people sought shelter in safe structures at the height of the storm.

Cyclone Ula crosses Fiji's Lau group

The small islands of Kabara, Namuka, Fulaga, Ogea, Vatoa and Ono-i-Lau are warned to expect destructive storm force winds of up to 155 kilometres an hour.

The category three system, which at its centres has average winds of 150 kilometres an hour and gusts of more than 200 kilometres an hour, is tracking southwest between the islands of Kabara and Ono-i-Lau.

Strong wind and flood warning issued for most of Fiji

A strong wind warning is in force for eastern Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Residents can expect strong winds with average speed of 45km/hr gusting to 65km/hr over Eastern Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group with rough to very rough seas.
