Todd set to put Olympics behind him

Just a couple of weeks after their disappointing fourth place finish at the Rio Olympics, Sir Mark Todd and Tim and Jonelle Price are competing for the 114 thousand dollar first prize, along with Andrew Nicholson, Caroline Powell, Dan Jocelyn and Blyth Tait.

Todd says the Olympic disappoinment still hurts, "It's going to be sore for a wee while I think, it is just another competition and sure it was an important one that we'd had four years buildup to, but like you say you've just got to get on with it and today's another day and this is another competition."

Snow causes power woes and cold set to continue in parts of NZ

RNZ reports about 400 homes in the Taupo district and parts of Hawke's Bay are still without power after the weekend snowstorm brought down about 200 power poles.

Hawkes Bay was worst-hit, but freezing temperatures have created treacherous conditions on roads across the country.

And MetService says there's no reprieve from the cold yet - a high-pressure ridge coming across the country over the next few days will bring fine weather to the South Island, but more sub-zero temperatures with it.

'A decision that cost them their lives'

They were sharing ota ika, a traditional Tongan marinated raw-fish dish, one of the dishes the men ate on their half-hour break from work.

Tongan PM says NZ and China 'unfair' over MA-60 inaction

RNZ reports China gifted the MA-60 plane to Tonga in 2012, and New Zealand responded by halting tourism aid funding and discouraging tourists to fly on the plane, which was used for domestic flights.

New Zealand has argued the plane was never properly certified, a point Tongan authorities disagreed on, saying China had guaranteed the type certification.

'Akilisi Pohiva says Tonga doesn't have the technical know-how, but New Zealand and China could easily work together to solve the problem.

Tongan overseas deportees discussed in Auckland

Kaniva News reports Mr Pohiva said the Tongan government was not told about the crimes they had committed overseas.

The Tongan Prime Minister told a Tongan audience in Mangere last evening this put Tongan society at risk.

After the deportees arrived in Tonga they were released into the community and there was nothing the government could do to make sure they would do no more harm to the society.

Mr Pohiva said it was important for the government to be informed so they could alert people if any criminal deportees moved into the community.

Panama Papers: New Zealand to tighten trust laws after being named in leaks

     

New Zealand has announced it is tightening rules surrounding foreign trusts after numerous documents in the Panama Papers leak referenced the country.

Officials in Wellington said the changes would improve the disclosure and registration of foreign trusts, as well as strengthening anti-money laundering rules.

"The changes to the foreign trust rules are a matter that the Government intends to move quickly on," Finance Minister Bill English said.

PNG Kapuls loses in penalty shootout

The second half grew more tense with the rowdy crowd begging Kapuls to score at least a goal but New Zealand defended well until nil all for fulltime.

Then, came the extra time as both sides look tired and weary but continue the fight but again went off scoreless on both halves of the game.

The moment of truth than pops in when the two teams chose their best to go for the shootout.
