Lord Fustiu’a is Tonga’s rep and will join MPs from Belgium, Denmark, Indonesia, Nepal, New Zealand, Senegal, Serbia and the United Kingdom.

24 year old man arrested for shooting incident

The suspect is currently in custody and will appear at the Vava’u Magistrates Court on February 2.

He is charged with possession of illegal firearms and grievous bodily harm.

A woman who was allegedly shot remains admitted at Ngu Hospital.

The doctor-in-charge at the hospital, Dr Sione Lee said the woman will require surgery at Vaiola Hospital in Nuku’alofa to remove a bullet in her body.

Dr Lee said they have prepared for the victim to be evacuated to Vaiola Hospital.

A second woman allegedly suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Hiva Lavaka, 24, described on Facebook by family members as the son of Vaine Taulanga Foʻou Lavaka, died at Hot Water Beach near Whitianga in the Coromandel at about 5.30 pm Sunday 24.

Vaine described herself in her Facebook account as she comes from Mataika, Vavaʻu in Tonga.

Domestic travellers, business operators on Vava’u infuriated with excessive airfares

Tongovua Appleton who operates a business on Vava’u said it costs 310 pa’anga for a person to fly from Tongatapu to Vava’u.

“That is beyond most of our people’s pay limits and if there are emergencies and we don’t have 310 pa’anga for that fare, how are we going to get to Tongatapu because we all know that taking the ferries will take longer than the planes.”

Multi-million Fāua wharf construction starts February

The new wharf complex will cater for all domestic vessels and will share with Queen Salote Wharf the harbouring of international vessels.
