Joy for Tonga while New Zealand win big on Match Day 3

For New Zealand the victory followed an 11-0 defeat of Samoa on Match Day 1, and inches them closer to securing qualification to the semi-finals.

Coach Gareth Turnbull made some changes to his side before the match and was pleased with how they handled the stubborn New Caledonia defensive formation.

“At the start of the game New Caledonia pressed really well which is a credit to them,” Turnbull says.

“We thought we passed well but found it difficult to work in the tight spaces.

Teufaiva Stadium in a sad state

The final of the Lavengamalie Rugby Cup Tournament 2015-2016 at Teufaiva on Saturday, 9 January, was the last major sports event to be held at the stadium. Until it is renovated, Tonga will be without a national stadium.

Takitoa Taumoepeau, the Secretary General of Tonga’s Amateur Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) and a member of the 2019 Pacific Games Organizing Committee, told Matangi Tonga on 13 January that a New Zealand based company, Creative Spaces had been approved as the project management for the upgrading of the Teufaiva Stadium.

The solar power device is expected to have an inverter that could convert the DC electricity into 240 Volt AC power, the Minister for Internal Affairs and MP for the Niuas, Fe’ao Vakatā told Kaniva News.

New Caledonia 5-Tonga 0, in opening match at OFC U 17 women's meet

New Caledonia took an early lead three minutes into the game when Jackie Pahoa smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Pahoa scored a second goal for New Caledonia in the tenth minute and the score line remained 2-0 until half time.

The other three goals were scored by New Caledonia in the second half.

Death of German not suspicious

A spokesperson from Tonga Police headquarters in Longlongo confirmed that police investigation was complete and they were not treating his death as suspicious.

His next of kin in Germany have been informed on the outcome of our investigation, the police stated.

His remains were recovered from the seabed by divers on 31 December and he was buried in 'Eua
