Tongan court to finally hear election petition against MP

The Chief Justice, Owen Paulson, dismissed Lavulavu's two applications for adjournment as well as an application for the Chief Justice to recuse himself from hearing the petition.

Matangi Tonga reports Judge Paulson said the applications were frivolous and intended to delay the hearing.

Tonga's Ha'apai islands to name park after Jonah

Former All Black Lomu, whose parents are Tongan, died in Auckland as a result of cardiac-arrest related to his long-running battle with kidney disease.

The New Zealand born Lomu was taken back to Ha'apai until he was five and the local governor Mo'ale Finau says villagers there have been sharing stories of the then-toddler.

Finau says the islands will pay respect to Jonah Lomu in a special way.

‘Eua marvels at new water supply

The cost for project is about $100,000, said ‘Elisiva Tapueluelu.the Secretary of the Tonga Water Board.

Two new underground water supplies were identified and established for the distribution of water to ‘Ohonua district.

The new supply of water will be just as good as water provided to consumers in Nuku‘alofa, Vava‘u and Ha‘apai.”

The Minister for Revenue and Customs and representative of the people of ‘Eua to Parliament, Tevita Lavemaau was chief guest at the commissioning of the water project.

Doctors need to know their roles as Medical and Dental Act is reviewed

Speaking at a workshop to review the Medical and Dental Practice Act 2001 at the Tonga Family Health Association Building in Nuku’alofa this week, Dr. ‘Ulufonua said it is important for a doctor to know his or her role and the legal implications linked to that.

“This workshop is about raising the awareness of how a dental and a medical doctor works here in Tonga,” Dr ‘Ulufonua said. 

“The committee that looked after this whole program hopes to review the Medical and Dental Practice Act 2001 and see how best that can be tailored for the work that we do here in Tonga.

Tongan business woman nominated for Commonwealth Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Tonga lost every game but one at the World Cup in England, including a 47-9 loss to the All Blacks.
