Tongan community in shock after 'fiercely loyal' man dies after being tasered

Alo Ngata, 29, died in police custody on Wednesday morning after an altercation in the central suburb of Freemans Bay on Sunday.

Police tasered and restrained him after witnessing him attacking an elderly man, Superintendent Karyn Malthus said.

The friend, who did not wish to be named, met Ngata when the pair were studying at Tangaroa College in Ōtara.

He described the 29-year-old as "fiercely loyal" and coming from a large family.

"I saw him just a couple of months ago in town and he was still just the same humble as guy I knew in school."

Victim described as ‘selfless, cheerful’

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Reginald Sharma of Tongan and Indo-Fijian descent.

The Avondale man, described as selfless and cheerful on social media, died on a driveway at the Haughey Ave property despite efforts to save him by performing CPR.

Sharma is being remembered on social media as an awesome, fun loving, cheerful son, brother, nephew, father and stepfather.

"... a person with a heart of gold always putting others first we are truly gonna miss you," his partner wrote.

The couple were expecting a child together.

Young Tongan man identified as victim of fatal Auckland house party

Sharma was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning at after an Auckland house party turned fatal, despite efforts to save his life.

According to Stuff.co, there were reports of rowdiness and fighting at the party on Haughey Ave in Three Kings - described by residents as an otherwise quiet street - prompted calls to police around 3am.

Police found Avondale resident Sharma in a critical condition in the driveway.

Son electrocuted while preparing for father’s funeral

Police have confirmed that the victim, Isileli Palu, was electrocuted last Thursday night at his family home in Kolomotu’a.

According to Kaniva News, Police allege, Palu touched a power cord while tents were being erected for his father’s funeral.

Investigations are continuing into Palu’s death.

Visiting Tongan man attacked in Auckland CBD remains in critical condition

The 42-year-old received serious head injuries in the assault, which occurred on Kitchener St around 3.40am on Saturday, a police spokeswoman said. 

Taranaki Daily News reports Police have reissued an appeal on Monday for witnesses to come forward.

The cause of his injuries was not yet known, the spokeswoman said. 

The man was seen walking down the middle of Kitchener St, obstructing the flow of traffic, when a car stopped and "words were exchanged" between the victim and the occupants of the car. 

Tongan man dies in car crash in Hawaii

The crash occurred on Wednesday morning (local time) when a Toyota 4Runner occupied by two men traveling north collided with a Nissan Titan, occupied by a man and woman traveling south, according to Hawaii police.

West Hawaii Today reports both vehicles subsequently burst into flames.

Police say the driver of the 4Runner was passing several vehicles on the highway.

Fa’anunu who was sentenced on Wednesday will also spend 36 months in prison for a misdemeanor child endangerment.

That includes six months for every child present in the home at the time their mother was killed.

“By committing such a cruel and violent act, he has broken the hearts and lives of hundreds of people including his own children,” said Sara Wright, Mary’s sister, according to San Diego 7 news.

Mary Fa’anunu was 34 when she died in the family’s home on Melrose Lane in unincorporated El Cajon.

Tongan man in US pleads guilty to beating wife’s ex husband to death

He was originally charged with murder but that was reduced to a charge of manslaughter, Utah media reported.

Police say Heneli Kaufusi, 36, violently attacked Sione Mangisi, 37, on Oct. 14, 2015, continuing to kick and stomp on the smaller man even after he lay motionless and incoherent. Mangisi died of his injuries shortly after.

Kaufusi is listed as 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 330 pounds, while police described Mangisi as 6 feet tall and 220 pounds.
